Focal Length Explained.



Different Types Of Camera Lenses

There are 3 types of camera lenses which we use which are called:

- Macro Lenses

- Standard Lenses

- Telephoto Lenses


Standard Lenses
A standard lens has a mid-range of focal length, typically around 50mm. They have an angle view which is around the same as the angle that the human eye can comfortably view, which means that they produce images, which appear as" natural" to the viewer.

Standard camera lenses normally have a fixed focal length and a wide aperture, giving them a high performance in low light. They are most known for a wide range of photography subjects, which includes landscapes, portraits.
















Macro Lenses

A macro lens is designed especially for close- up photography. They have a different internal structure   from normal lenses which gives them a high quality sharpness and contrast, meaning that they can produce some really eye- catching photos.

Marco lenses are used for photographing any subject at a very close range. Typical subjects include insects, animals,plants, but they are also popular for taking extremely detailed photos of everyday objects.




Telephoto Lenses
A telephoto lens have a long focal length and provides a high level of magnification, allowing you to photograph subjects at a moderate distance. They tend to be bigger and heavier than other types of lens, although modern technological advances have made them more compact and easier to adjust.

Telephoto lenses are known for any type of photography where you can't get near to the subject, including wildlife and sports events. They are also used in portrait photography, to provide a natural feel to the perspective


















Here are shots of some pictures I took, using the focal length technique. But the pictures are not consistent and not focused on one subject matter & thats were I have messed up.

White Balance 

This image was shot in auto white balance. 

When the camera's white balance is on this setting gives the image a standard and natural look to the photo. 





This image was shot in tungsten white balance. 

When the camera is on the setting of tungsten on white balance settings, it gives the image a blue ish affect, when this setting is used outside it will give the opposite colour effect.   




This image was shot in cloudy white balance.

You can also set your white balance to cloudy which is used for overcast weathers to shoot in.




Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the amount of time that the shutter opens. Shutter speed is measured in seconds or you could also say fractions. Shutter speed os the length of time that your image sensor or focuses the scene you're attempting to capture. 

Here are some examples of the photos I took. 












ISO
In Digital photography ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The same rule also applies to film photography, the lower the number the less sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain.
Higher ISO settings are generally used in darker situations to get faster shutter speeds. For example like indoor sports events, when you want to freeze the action in lower light. However the higher the ISO you choose the degrades the quality of the image and adds noise to the image.

Aperture
Aperture is the size of the opening of the lens when a picture is taken, it also chooses how much light goes into the lens, the bigger the lens is the more light is going to go inside it, the smaller the lens the less the light is going to go in. 

Aperture is measured in F stops moving from one f-stop to the next doubles or halves the size of the amount of opening of the lens and the amount of light going to go inside it. Keep in mind that a change in shutter speed from one stop to the next doubles or halves the amount of light that gets in also, which means if you increase one and decrease the other you let the same amount of light in.
